In keeping with my retro toys theme this week, I bring you the Gameboy Mini Classics from Nintendo. Hailing from the days when your ‘portable’ game player required a separate hold-all to carry the thing, my gameboy helped me pass time on many boring car journeys. These little gems are far more portable, and while the graphics will never rival those of the latest mobile gaming devices, you can while away the hours with a choice of three classic games!

The brand new movie from Dreamworks, Monsters vs Aliens has a fantastic range of merchandise to match. The story follows Susan Murphy, who grows to 49 feet 11 inches tall and is labelled a monster by the military. Playskool Dance Cam puts your kids on the TV

I grew up with my brother and his friends playing Scalextric round our living room. When I was younger I was unofficial ‘ramp’ but later I got to join in the fun and I would love to have a go at this set. MechRC robot – possibly the most exciting robot toy we’ve found

In celebration of our fantastic Remote Control Helicopter competition, we’ve gone on the hunt for the best RC toys around – and this one is going to take some beating. The love child of a Robot inventor and one of the Transformers‘ artists, MechRC Robot is the most interactive, programmable robot toy we can find. He features over 100 pre-installed motions and sounds, and can be easily programmed on your computer. The best part is, all of your PC interaction is with an animated film strip – it doesn’t get much easier!

You just manipulate the animated robot on the screen, save the sequence, and then have him repeat his new dance/fighting/dinner making moves later with the IR remote control. You can also upload music files to play through the speaker in MechRC’s chest.

This officially endorsed product is shaped like the world’s most famous mouse, and is so small in size it can fit into even the tiniest kid’s pocket. It has a diameter of only 30mm and a weight of 18g, so while this player may get you noticed, you’ll barely notice it’s there. Not only that, it’s super easy to use to, and has enough functions to make sure it’s a great player as well as a must have fashion accessory! You control the player by twisting the ears. The left controls the volume and the right is for fast forward and rewind. It has about 9 hours playback on a fully charged battery and a pretty impressive 1GB storage which is enough for about 250 tracks (or the entire High School Musical discography)
