The Toys R Us sale has been brilliant this year, but so have the discounts in its sister store – Babies R Us. In amongst the cots, bedding and buggies on sale, there is the little gem of the Bruin ‘My First Laptop.

Really the laptop is an interactive sound toy with a screen that lights up, and easy to press musical keys with educational games for your child. The keys help your baby to discover shapes, numbers and sounds. The child can use the computer ‘mouse’ (shaped like, you’ve realistic animal sounds, or 4 different instruments sounds which each play 4 tunes.

The Early Learning Centre have had a long tradition of providing the perfect role play toys for toddlers, and their new range is no different. My First Shop is a fantastic, compact cash register set. Children can press the chunky keys to light up the numbers on the screen, push down the fruit on the scales, roll the conveyor belt and open and close the till. Or for the more practical child, how about My first work bench? This brilliant bench has loads of features including nuts that click when you use the screwdriver and a saw handle to turn.

Nici’s latest Halloween range – spookily cute

It’s that time of year again, but who can be afraid of witches and bats when their Nici characters look such cute?! There are 5 adorable creatures in Nici’s new Halloween range: Samantha the Witch, Sir Simon the Bat, Samuel the Cat, and Silvio the Raven.

The 15cm sound toys make spooky laughing noises when you press their tummies. I love Samuel the Cat who has a pink nose and a missing eye. If you know someone who could use a lucky black cat, he’s the perfect choice.

All of the characters are also available as keyrings and magnetic toys. If you’d rather have something a bit less cutesy, there’s always the super spooky crawling spider, or moving bat…..shudder!

Lost me Find Me Child Alarms – pure genius.

It’s not too often that you sit back and slap your forehead with the classic cry of “Why didn’t I think of that?!” but these little inventions made me do just that (much to the amusement of my colleagues). We all know how cunning children are at wandering away in the split second you get distracted, causing mini heart attacks to their poor parents and guardians. Someone should invent a gadget to alert you the second they meander…well they have – introducing the Lost Me Find Me child alarm.

Now while we at ToyHype in no way advocate relying on technology to keep an eye on your kids, these are a back up for even the most conscientious parent. The gadgets are basically a proximity detector, with the transmitter hidden in cute and cuddly wrist bands for the little tyke, and a receiver alarm for parents to attach to your keys.

You’ll be alerted as soon as the little one goes exploring out of your pre-defined range (1-20 metres) allowing you to act straight away. Switch the receiver to locate mode, and it’ll go off as soon as your child is back in range.
